Equestrian
The Dublin Horse Show is the one of highlights of the Irish summer and runs annually for five days, usually in August. Considered one of the top equestrian events in the world, the Show is the pinnacle event for the Irish sport horse industry and a major draw for international equestrian competitors. The Show boasts one of the largest prize funds of any international equestrian event of over €1.2 million. Every year as part of the Nations Cup, the RDS awards the fabled Aga Khan Trophy, which was first presented in 1926.
The RDS Equestrian mission and therefore the mission of the Dublin Horse Show, is to support the Irish sport horse breeder and producer through:
- Showcasing the best Irish bred horses
- Developing a market place for Irish bred horses
- Encouraging the highest standards in breeding for purpose, horse welfare, ethical training and effective horsemanship
- Demonstrating the benefits of the horse / human relationship for modern day society
- Promoting show jumping by hosting an International Show to the very highest standards
As a key player in the sport horse community, the RDS is involved in more than this pinnacle event. Along with the programmes listed below, the RDS was a central player in the development of the all-encompassing industry strategy 'Reaching New Heights'.
