Leave a gift in your Will

The RDS has been the beneficiary of the gifts in Wills throughout our long history. From bequests of books to build up our library, to pieces of art, to monetary gifts to fund our work, the generosity of Members who remember the RDS in their Will has helped us grow as a Society and build up our legacy of impact on Irish life.

Leave a gift in your Will

Gifts in Wills, such as the R.C. Lewis-Crosby Prize for visual art, continue to play a vital role in funding for our philanthropy projects. That is why we are asking Members to consider remembering the RDS in this way to help ensure the Society’s continued contribution to Ireland’s future generations.

Speaking of his late father’s bequest to the RDS, Antony Lewis-Crosby says, “There are many Members of the RDS with similar dedication to the Society and its aims and objectives. It would give me great pleasure to think that my father’s example might spur someone else to consider leaving something in their Will to ensure that the RDS can continue to thrive into the future. We have been very happy with how the RDS has expertly managed the fund bequeathed by my father, so what could be a better way, after looking after family and friends, to provide for the long-term future of the work of the RDS?”.

How to leave a gift in your Will

If you have already made a Will and would like to leave a gift to the RDS, you can do so by making a simple addition to your existing Will. This is called a codicil, and your solicitor can help you with it. If you do not have a Will and would like to make one, we strongly advise you to see a solicitor. Although you will have to pay a fee, you will receive professional advice and can be sure that your wishes are achieved.

There are a number of ways in which you can leave a gift in your Will:

  • You can choose to leave a residuary gift, which is a share or the entirety of what is left in your estate once you have provided for your loved ones.
  • You can choose to give a pecuniary gift, which is a gift of a fixed amount of money.
  • You can also choose to leave a specific gift of property, such as a building, art or shares. These gifts can be left to sell, or to be held according to your instructions. If you wish to include a gift of this type to the RDS, please speak with us first to ensure we are able to display or preserve your gift.

Your solicitor will be able to provide you with advice on which option best suits your wishes and personal circumstances.

Your solicitor will need to know our address and registered charity number:
Royal Dublin Society
Ballsbridge
Dublin 4
Registered Charity Number (RCN): 20002008
CHY Number: 1325

This leaflet outlines the impact that your gift could have on the work of the RDS, as well as more details on how to leave a gift in your Will to the Society.
