Science and Technology
It is hard to overestimate the important role that Science and Technology plays in all our lives. The contribution of the RDS to understanding in this area, both now and in generations past, is something we are proud of. Our STEM education programme is of national significance and will greatly impact the next generation.
Education has been at the heart of the RDS since our earliest years and we were one of the earliest promoters of science in Ireland. This track record complements our current focus on science education in primary schools, an important long-term investment in the future success of Ireland.
For the next generation, the development of strong scientific, numeracy and literacy skills is paramount. Critical thinking, creativity and reasoning skills are also fundamental to an engaged citizenry, confident to make important societal choices. Through evidence-based targeted initiatives, focusing on STEM skills development, the RDS science & technology programme benefits pupils’ scientific literacy and broadens their understanding of the possibilities of STEM. We do this through two national projects:
ESB Science Blast
Fosters STEM specific skills at a crucially early age in a child's academic progression. This programme has been designed, developed, and now delivered by the RDS, with ESB as title sponsor. Tens of thousands of primary school students have already benefited.
ESB Science Blast
STEM Learning
Focuses on working with primary school teachers from around Ireland to give them content, knowledge and confidence to deliver engaging and stimulating STEM modules in their class.
