With 160 years of support to the Arts, the Trust embodies true leadership in the area of philanthropy. Although the longevity of the partnership is remarkable, it is our shared achievements and impact across the centuries that make this philanthropic support a truly inspiring story. Quietly influencing the Irish landscape for generations, the Taylor Art Trust has invested in, and supported some of Ireland’s leading and most successful artists such as Walter Osborne, William Orpen, Roderic O’Conor, Mary Swanzy, Louis Le Brocquy and Dorothy Cross. Since 1860 over 300 early career artists have benefited from the financial support of the Taylor Art Trust.
The partnership between the Trust and the RDS began with the gift of a £2,000 legacy from Captain George Taylor who died in 1854, for the “the promotion of art”. Taylor’s executors approached the RDS to set up an award scheme as the Society was running the Metropolitan School of Art in Dublin at the time. The legacy has been carefully stewarded by Trustees of the Taylor Art Trust who remain as committed today to supporting visual art as their predecessors did in 1860.
We are so proud of our truly extraordinary partnership and delighted that the Taylor Art Trust has received well deserved national recognition.
Fingers crossed for April 21st when the winners will be announced!
