Former Glanbia CEO awarded prestigious business award
This Friday (2.12.16) John Moloney will be awarded the 2016 RDS Gold Medal for Enterprise. His vision and leadership turned Glanbia plc into one of the leading international agri-food and nutrition businesses operating out of Ireland, as well changing the perception of the Irish dairy sector both in Ireland and globally.
When John Moloney assumed the leadership role of Glanbia the company was not the success it is today. His leadership steered the company into sustainable profit with expansions into the American market and performance nutrition. Under his stewardship the €235 million diary processing facility at Belview Port was commenced – the largest single investment by an indigenous company since Ardnacrusha power station. During his time Glanbia profits increased from €59.6 million in 2001 to €212 million in 2012.
Speaking about the Award, the now chairman of DCC, said "there have been a lot of people who have played significant roles in the transformation of Glanbia into the global success it has become. I joined in 1987 and was please to play my part throughout my time there right up until when I left as CEO in 2012.”
“It is a tremendous honour for both my family and for me to receive this award and in doing so to follow in the footsteps those who have previously received the RDS Gold Medal. I am happy to use the occasion to reflect on what I have learnt from the wide range of talented people with whom I have worked, and to address some of the stark challenges facing the agri-food sector in light of the Brexit result."
Speaking in advance of the event RDS CEO Michael Duffy said: “The RDS Gold Medal builds upon the founding aims of the RDS which is to actively promote excellence in key areas of Irish life. The RDS Gold Medal recognises business leadership, innovation, management and achievement. John Moloney has amply displayed all of these qualities during his career and we are delighted to recognise his successes in this way.”
The RDS Gold Medal is the flagship business award presented by the RDS to celebrate Irish business success. At the awards lunch in the RDS Concert Hall John Moloney will be joined on stage by Newstalk FM business editor Vincent Wall for a conversation about his business career.
John Moloney is Chair of DCC plc, Chair of Coillte Teo, former Chair of FoodWise 2025 and a non-executive director of both Greencore plc and Smurfit Kappa Groupplc, and a board member of Focus Ireland.
The RDS Gold Medal for Industry takes place this Friday, December 2, in the RDS Concert Hall from 12 noon with all 32 available tables sold.
