A complete aesthetic and technical refurbishment has taken place in Hall 3, continuing redevelopments in Hall 8, plus there is the newly renovated Lansdowne Room and the new RDS Centurion Bar.
RDS ICT Development
RDS embarked on a three year multi million euro upgrade of its ICT infrastructure during 2012.
Phase 1 of this focused on the rollout of a core infrastructure at a cost of circa €1m in 2012 and included the following;
- New Comms Room(s) and Points of Presence throughout the campus.
- Campus wide ducting network.
- 1GB Primary ISP and 100mb Backup ISP to diverse locations on site.
- 96 core single mode fibre backbone across campus.
- Re-cabling of the majority of our main halls.
- High availability Juniper switching and routing infrastructure to support 100,000 IP Addresses.
- Upgrade of ICT connectivity in specific locations including the Main Hall Organisers Office and Main Arena.
Phase 2 will include the rollout of a High Density WiFi network to all major exhibition halls and meeting rooms during 2013.
This will be the first business critical application to be delivered on our core infrastructure.
This important application will enable the RDS to provide a high quality, reliable wireless service to our customers.
A sophisticated “User Authentication and Billing Platform” will allow us to provision a tailored quality of service to all user groups.
The WiFi network is designed to support 20,000 concurrent devices and will scale with the inevitable growth in demand for wireless access in the coming years.
Details of this service including the associated costs of access will be made available closer to the launch of the network.
This specific aspect of our ICT Strategy will be the clearest sign to date of the scale and extent of our investment in ICT services and will deliver a “best in class” wireless service to all user groups.
We will keep you informed of our progress both on the WiFi rollout and on other key elements of our ICT investment programme during 2013 and 2014.
