The overall prize fund for the 2010 RDS National Crafts Competition is in excess of €28,000.
RDS AWARD OF EXCELLENCE
An overall prize of €7,000 and the California Gold Medal will be awarded to the most outstanding entry in the 2010 Competition.
RDS RESERVE PRIZE
A reserve prize of €3,500 will awarded and the winners will be chosen from the medal winners in each of the 20 categories. The Gold Medal is sponsored by the California Fund.
RDS NEW ENTRANTS PRIZE 2010
A prize of €1,500 will be awarded to the best new entrant in any of the categories.
RDS GRADUATE PRIZE 2010
A €1,500 prize will be awarded to the best entry submitted by a 2010 final year student in any of the categories.
RDS WILLIAM SMITH O'BRIEN PERPETUAL CHALLENGE CUP
1st prize winners in the Lace; Embroidery; Patchwork and Quilting; Weaving; Knitting and Crochet Categories are eligible to compete for this award.
RDS COMMITTEE OF ARTS ACQUISITION
A work of merit will be purchased for the RDS Art Collection.
RDS CATEGORY PRIZES
1st prize winners in each of the 20 categories will be awarded an RDS Medal and Certificate of Excellence. 2nd prize winners in categories without a subcategory will receive an RDS Certificate of Excellence.

CRAFTS COUNCIL OF IRELAND AWARD
The Crafts Council of Ireland purchase prize of €5,000 promotes and awards innovation, creativity and excellence in Irish Craft.
NATIONAL CRAFTS & DESIGN FAIR OF IRELAND AWARD
A prize of €1,500 will be awarded for the most innovative design in any category made by a crafts person aged 30 years or under. Proof of age will be required.
COMPANY OF GOLDSMITHS OF DUBLIN AWARD
A 1st prize of €1,000 and a 2nd prize of €500 will be awarded in the Jewellery (Precious Metals) and Gold, Silver & Alternative Materials (Precious Metals) Categories. Entries must be made of precious metal, i.e. gold, silver or platinum. THE PIECE MUST BE HALLMARKED BY THE DUBLIN ASSAY OFFICE to qualify for this award and made entirely by the entrant.
MÁIRÍN O'BRIEN FLEGG MEMORIAL AWARD
A prize of €1,000 for excellence in traditional/ domestic embroidery and €500 for excellence in contemporary embroidery.
ELEANOR DE LA BRANCHARDIERE AWARD
A prize of €1,200 will be awarded for a creative lace design.
IACI MURIEL GAHAN SCHOLARSHIP OR DEVELOPMENT GRANT
The judges will nominate a number of competitors showing outstanding ability who will go forward for interview by the RDS Crafts sub-Committee for the €1,000 scholarship. This scholarship is for emerging craft workers aged 30 years or under. Proof of age will be required. Interviews will be held during autumn 2010. Sponsored by the Irish American Cultural Institute (IACI).
LILLIAS MITCHELL AWARD
A prize of €650 "For a weaver, student or postgraduate, enlarging his or her vision by research into spinning, dyeing or weaving, submitting both a written thesis and a sample of work".
THE DUFF TISDALL FURNITURE DESIGN AWARD
A prize of €500 will be awarded for innovation in the design and construction of a piece of furniture. Judging will be based upon the piece together with associated sketches and working drawings.
IRISH WOODTURNERS GUILD AWARD
A prize of €500 for excellence, innovation and traditional skill in woodturning will be awarded in the Woodturning Category.
