Boasting a prize fund in excess of €30,000 over 20 different categories, the RDS National Crafts Competition is one of Europe’s leading independently adjudicated craft competitions. Since 2008, the Competition has been organised in association with the Crafts Council of Ireland.
Since its inception in 1968, the Competition continues to encourage and promote the practice of craft in Ireland and is now considered to be a major event in the Irish crafts industry calendar. The Competition is organised in association with the Crafts Council of Ireland.
With craft categories such as ceramics, glass, furniture and textiles, the Competition is a unique opportunity for craft workers and designers to compete for prestigious awards and prizes.
Each year, the winning and commended entries are exhibited at the RDS National Crafts Competition & Student Art Awards Exhibition during the Fáilte Ireland Dublin Horse Show and for four further days after the Horse Show concludes. This is a wonderful opportunity for the work of these craft practitioners to be showcased.
To broaden the exposure for the prize-winners, the RDS organises the annual RDS National Crafts Competition Prize Winners Travelling Exhibition which sees the works go on tour and be exhibited at three regional venues north and south of the country. Previous venues have included Damer House, Portlaoise, Co. Offaly; Foxford Woolen Mills, Co. Mayo and Strule Arts Centre, Omagh, Co. Tyrone.
