St John Ambulance in Ireland during WWI
St John Ambulance was founded following a public meeting at the RDS in 1880. This talk will focus on the untold story of the St John Ambulance Brigade during the first World War. The humanitarian response of its members contribution across the country will be considered, as well as how the service became Ireland’s first national ambulance service.
Pádraig Allen is Archives and Projects Manager for St John Ambulance Ireland and has been volunteering with them for eighteen years. In 2014 he started researching professionally on Ireland’s oldest first aid teaching charity and in 2015 he established the St John Ambulance Archives. Pádraig has worked on a number of centenary projects relating to the the history of the Brigade.
